Simple French Onion Soup Recipe

French Onion Soup

Not one of my favorite, but every once in awhile, I get the craving for French Onion soup. The thing is, French Onion soup from a can tastes terrible. So I rather make it myself. It's pretty simple. All you'll need are the following:

French Onion Soup

  • 4 large onions, sliced thin;
  • 1/4 cup butter;
  • 4 cups brown stocks or beef broth;
  • 1 teaspoon steak sauce;
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt;
  • dash of pepper;
  • 2 French roll, sliced and toasted; and
  • Grated Parmessan cheese.
Instructions:

In a sauce pan, cook the onions until lightly browned. Add the stock and steak sauce and bring to boil while seasoning with salt and pepper. Pour the soup into bowls.

Sprinkle Parmessan cheese generously on the sliced toasted rolls. Float the sliced rolls on the bowls and broil for a few minutes until the cheese is browned and melted. The broiler part is not necessary, but I like doing it for the gourmet touch.

Sometimes it's good to mix things up and use gruyere cheese instead of parm. The end result is amazing!
